Video Poker is a favored game that is able to be wagered on in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your home computer, using a web connection. The rules are very simple and involve the player trying to get the best mixture of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A five card hand will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and enthusiasts will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards are needed they will be dealt. The round is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from game to game, so that knowledgeable gamblers are agile enough to choose the most money-making ones each instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their winnings, in which case another hand is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
