Video Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos all over the world, or alternatively at home on your PC, through a net connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the highest assemblage of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it is much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the deal button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors should now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the player has decided on which cards he wishes to retain, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that discerning players are able to choose the most money-making ones each and every instance.

As soon as the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, a few styles of the game give the gambler a chance to double their wins, in which instance another round is played. There are also differences between individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
