Electronic Poker is a favored game that is able to be bet on in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through a web connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the greatest assemblage of cards possible in order to acquire money. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, without the interaction with other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will then be "distributed" on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and bettors should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards he would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The round is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that skillful gamblers are agile enough to choose the most beneficial game every time.

After the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case another game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
