Electronic Poker is a beloved game that can be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at your house on your PC, using a web connection. The game rules are absolutely simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the best assemblage of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be "handed out" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and bettors will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the player has decided on which cards he wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced enthusiasts are able to select the most profitable game every time.

After the first round has played out, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their profits, in which situation a further game is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing aspects to enhance playability.
