Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be played in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at your house on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are very simple and consist of the player attempting to get the highest mixture of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, without the involvement with competing players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be "dealt" on the video screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the gambler has selected which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards will be needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Generally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from game to game, so that experienced gamblers are able to pick the most money-making machine every instance.
After the first round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that might been won. Additionally, several styles of the game give the bettor a chance to double their wins, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also differences between individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying aspects to increase playability.
